About Prof. Noel Tagoe

Dean, Nile Business School

Prof. Noel Tagoe is a globally recognised thought leader and consultant in finance, education, strategy, technology, and sustainability. He brings a wealth of leadership experience from academia, professional bodies, and corporate advisory roles.

 

He previously served as Professor of Accounting Practice at Nottingham University Business School, and as Executive Vice President, Research & Curricula at AICPA–CIMA (Association of International Certified Professional Accountants – Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), where he led the development of global competency frameworks that are shaping the future of the accounting profession.

 

Prof. Tagoe has advised leading organisations in the automotive, aviation, financial services, and FMCG sectors on finance transformation, digital strategy, managing disruption, and sustainability/ESG. His earlier corporate experience includes roles at BP and Elf Aquitaine (now TotalEnergies), leadership at KPMG Ghana, and teaching positions at the University of Oxford, University of Manchester, and University College Dublin.

 

A former member of the Board of Directors for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the global professional body for HR and people development, Prof. Tagoe remains deeply engaged in advancing the future of business education and leadership development across Africa and beyond.

 

He holds degrees from the University of Ghana, the University of Dundee, and the University of Oxford, and is a Fellow of CIMA.

Semester 1

Leading an Organisaton
3 Credits

This course explores leadership theories and change management practices necessary for driving organizational transformation. Topics include transformational and transactional leadership, change management models 3 4 (such as Kotter’s 8-Step Process), resistance management, communication strategies, and culture change. Students will engage in role-playing and case studies to develop practical leadership skills and effective strategies for managing organisational change.

This course provides tools and frameworks for analysing the business environment. Topics include PESTEL analysis (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, and Legal factors), competitive analysis, market research methodologies, and scenario planning. Students will work on case studies to understand how external factors impact business operations and strategic planning, and how to adapt strategies accordingly

This course covers the application of data analytics in decision-making processes. Key topics include data collection and cleaning, statistical methods, data visualisation techniques, predictive analytics, and big data technologies. Students will use tools such as Excel, R, and Python to analyse data sets and make informed business decisions. Practical exercises and case studies will help students understand how to leverage data for strategic advantage.

This course covers the fundamentals of corporate financial accounting. Topics include financial statement preparation (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements), accounting standards and principles (GAAP, IFRS), revenue recognition, asset and liability management, and financial statement analysis. Case studies will provide practical insights into applying accounting principles to real-world business scenarios.

This course provides an in-depth understanding of strategic management processes. Topics include strategic planning, competitive advantage, strategic analysis (SWOT, Porter’s Five Forces), corporate strategy, and strategy implementation. Students will analyse case studies to develop and implement strategic plans, focusing on aligning organisational resources and capabilities with business goals for long-term success.

This course focuses on the financial management of corporations. Topics include capital budgeting, financial forecasting, capital structure, risk management, and valuation techniques. Students will use financial models and case studies to understand how to make financial decisions that enhance corporate value, manage financial risks, and ensure effective capital allocation. 

Negotiation in management presents negotiation theory – strategies and styles – within an employment context. In this course, you will understand the theory and processes of negotiation in a variety of settings. You will develop negotiation skills needed to thrive in business environments by addressing a variety of negotiation topics experientially through: preparing for and simulating a range of negotiation situations, and analysing your negotiation outcomes and strategies. Experiences and negotiation theory are integrated in a weekly debrief. Readings and case studies will complement your classroom experience and reinforce key messages.

This course explores key legal concepts relevant to business operations. Topics include contract law, corporate governance, intellectual property rights, employment law, and regulatory compliance. Students will learn about the legal environment in which businesses operate and how to navigate legal challenges through case studies and practical examples. The course aims to equip students with the knowledge to ensure legal compliance and manage legal risks effectively.

Semester 2

Marketing Management

This course focuses on strategic approaches to marketing within a competitive landscape. Topics include market segmentation, targeting and positioning, competitive analysis, brand management, and integrated marketing communications. Students will analyse case studies and develop marketing strategies that align with overall business objectivesleveraging digital and traditional marketing tools to create value and drive growth.

Globalisation, technological advancement, open markets, and human desires to succeed have resulted in increasingly competitive and stressful work landscapes. Managing human behaviour and channeling it appropriately is also important for organisations. The study of organisational behaviour relates to the expected behaviour of individuals and teams in organisations, both of which are influenced by situational factors and interactions. In this course, you will learn how to apply motivational theories, and to understand the art of leadership and the skill of redesigning and modifying jobs to align with organisational structures; all ongoing processes that facilitate positive work environments leading to increased job satisfaction of employees, greater productivity, and organisational growth.

Operations management comprises the set of activities that create value by transforming inputs into outputs. Competitive advantage in operations holds critical importance in any business. This course equips you with concepts, techniques, and tools to design, analyse, and enhance corporate operations to deliver value efficiently and effectively to customers. Emphasis is placed on integration with other business functions such as marketing, human resources, and information management. Many managers must consider the interdependent nature of an organisation and the requirement for cross-functional decision-making in diverse markets. This course integrates traditional marketing, human resource, information systems, and supply chain management knowledge and approaches into an integrated operations management perspective to enable you to meet this challenge when operating in various business environments and addressing the differing dynamics of value generation.

Topics include macroeconomic indicators (GDP, inflation, unemployment), microeconomic theories (supply and demand, elasticity), market structures (perfect competition, monopoly), and economic forecasting. Students will use economic models to analyse market trends and make strategic business decisions. Case studies will help in understanding the impact of economic factors on business operations.
